Recruitment Cost Formulas

Total Internal Cost = Recruiter Cost + Interview Cost + Referral Payouts + Other Internal Costs

Total External Cost = Job Portal Cost + Agency Fees + Candidate Travel + Other External Costs

Total Recruitment Cost = Total Internal Cost + Total External Cost

Cost per Hire = Total Recruitment Cost ÷ Number of Employees Hired

Worked Example: Recruitment Cost Calculation

Suppose a company hires 5 employees in one month. Its recruitment expenses are:

Recruitment Expense Amount
Recruiter and HR team cost ₹20,000
Interview and assessment cost ₹5,000
Employee referral payouts ₹3,000
Job portals and advertising ₹8,000
Recruitment agency fees ₹12,000
Candidate travel and logistics ₹2,000
Other internal and external costs ₹0
Total Recruitment Cost ₹50,000

Calculation:

  • Total recruitment cost = ₹50,000
  • Employees hired = 5
  • Cost per hire = ₹50,000 ÷ 5
  • Cost per hire = ₹10,000

The company spends an average of ₹10,000 to recruit each employee during this period.
