How is Attrition Rate Calculated?

Employee attrition rate measures the percentage of employees who left an organization during a specific period compared with the average number of employees during that period.

Attrition Rate = (Employees Who Left ÷ Average Headcount) × 100

Average Headcount = (Beginning Headcount + Ending Headcount) ÷ 2

Example: If an organization starts with 100 employees, ends with 90 employees, and 15 employees leave during the period, the average headcount is 95 and the attrition rate is approximately 15.79%.

Note: This calculator uses the simple average-headcount method. Organizations may use different calculation conventions depending on their reporting period and HR reporting practices.
